Santa Cruz game app for iPad moves to No.2 spot

Santa Cruz iPad game moved to No.2 spot on the free games list at the App Store and is available for free download. Santa Cruz mobile game application was created by FuzzyCube Software, the Santa Cruz game development company which created iQuarterback, came up with a simple idea of a football player hitting a target with a watermelon which can draw a huge crowd. iQuarterback 2, an updated version of a game developed for the iPod in 2009, had over 150,000 downloads in just a week after its release on May 18. The game app had a refurbished look with greater control, better graphics support and an improved user interface. The iPad developer, Jeff Ruediger, has been credited for the rich graphics in the updated gaming version. The iPad’s large screen had an advantage over smartphones for casual games. Mozilla has announced an update to the mobile version of Firefox 4 for Android devices that improves performance and usability. Firefox 4 enables users to customize mobile web experience on the Android platform. Firefox 4 features faster scrolling, page loads, multitouch zoom, improved interface, better JavaScript performance and user experience, new theme, tab management from the side bar, bookmarks, add-ons and sync options. Firefox 4 brings improvements to developer tools such as CSS, Canvas and SVG. Android developers can leverage HTML5 for location-aware browsing, device orientation, accelerometer, desktop notifications and more. RIM Integrates Android and BlackBerry App Players on BlackBerry Playbook

BlackBerry PlayBook will support BlackBerry Java and Android apps, which RIM had announced in March end. According to RIM, it will have two app players , working in a “secure sandbox”, that will provide Android 2.3 apps and blackberry apps with run-time environments. The two apps will also support native C/C++, HTML5, Flash and Air development, and game engines AirPlay from Ideaworks Labs and Unity 3 from Unity Technologies. RIM has confirmed that Blackberry users can download Android Apps, compatible with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and also BlackBerry Java Apps via BlackBerry App world. Android developers will port their apps in BlackBerry App World and it will provide an opportunity for developers to monetize apps. BlackBerry developers will have to repackage, code-sign and submit their Java and Android apps to BlackBerry App World for approval. Currently, BlackBerry App World has over 25,000 BlackBerry Java apps while Android Market has over 200,000 Android apps. BlackBerry PlayBook will be launched on April 19.

There are more than 75000 iPad apps available in the App Store

In April 2010, the original iPad was launched in US and it hit Europe in May 2010. iPad 2 was released last month and is now available in US and Europe. The App Store boasts of more than 75,000 apps i.e. 75,917 to be precise. This is a great achievement as it just surpassed 51,000 apps in December 2010 and within three months iPad developers has released more than 25000 apps in the Apple’s App Store. This is in contrast to Android marketplace with 17 apps optimized for Motorola’s XOOM tablet. Apple’s App Store went past 250,000 apps for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and at present there are more than 350,000 apps are available in the App Store with over 10 billion downloads.

Google has revamped the Google Search app (formerly Google Mobile App) for iPhone to make it fast and cool. iPhone developer can build an iPhone application using the SDK, that searches Google Search for web information, images, videos, news and more.

Appcelerator and Verizon Wireless team-up for developing mobile apps

Verizon Wireless will team with the titanium platform of Appcelerator that allows web developers to use their Javascript skills to create Titanium mobile apps for Verizon Wireless customers.

Appcelerator is an open source cross-platform development framework for developing native mobile, desktop and iPad apps using HTML, CSS, PHP, Python, Ruby and JavaScript. This tie-up will benefit lots of web developers for developing native mobile apps for Android and BlackBerry in a single platform, and distribute and sell them through V CAST Apps, Verizon Wireless’ mobile storefront. The Titanium platform will support Verizon Wireless APIs, including SMS/MMS, location kits, assisted GPS, and device presence/status following the collaboration of Verizon Wireless.

There are over 90,000 titanium developer worldwide who publish more than 1,300 new apps per month. Titanium has recently created two new tools, Titanium+Geo (for geo-analytics) and Titanium+Commerce (integrated with PayPal).
